Islamic Finance Education and Curricula of Deeni Madaris (Religious Seminaries): An Exploratory Study

Sharī‘ah governance is a unique element of Islamic financial system in which Ulama (Sharī‘ah scholars) play a fundamental role. The Madaris (religious seminaries) are the major source of the education of Ulama. This study will thoroughly analyze and compare the syllabubs of Deeni Madaris (religious seminaries) which is being taught in dars-e-nizami and Takhasus fil Fiqh/Takhasus fil Ifta (specialization in giving pronouncements) offered in different schools of thoughts regarding Islamic finance education. In the second part of this paper, a survey was conducted from the academia of the religious institutions regarding structure of syllabus being taught at their institutions. The questionnaire will also ask the respondents about status of curriculum concerning Islamic finance and efforts in inclusion of contemporary studies in the syllabus specifically Islamic finance and jurisprudence issues.
